Set high on Monte Artxanda, the "balcony of Bilbao", this small family-run hotel offers all the tranquility of a rural environment with fantastic views over and easy access to the city of Bilbao (a short drive or bus ride, or a half hour's walk). You can literally stay in the hills and walk to the Guggenheim! The hotel is an authentic Vizcayan "caserio", a large stone built country house, and its sixteen spacious rooms are comfortably furnished in traditional style. With pretty gardens, a terrace and a paddle court there is plenty of space for relaxing outdoors and the friendly owners will make sure you feel at home. Only 12 kms from Bilbao Airport, 3 km from the city centre, close to the coast and lovely countryside and a good golf course (6 km) - this is a very good spot from which to discover Bilbao.
12 double / twin bedrooms, all with ensuite facilities. 1 room equipped for disabled use. All rooms have satellite TV, wireless internet access, telephone, hair-dryer and central heating. 5 rooms redecorated in a modern style with air conditioning. (Casas' clients will be given preference to these rooms subject to availability) . Two apartments with kitchen facilities sleeping four people also available within the hotel. NB Some rooms are accessed via the stairs only. Should you have any difficulty walking please let us know at the time of booking.
Bar, lounge. Gardens, terrace, paddle-tennis court. Parking in the grounds. Bus service direct from hotel door to city centre or to link with funicular railway 2km away.
Breakfast only, self-service from a reasonably extensive buffet, within the hotel itself though there is an 'Asador' ("grill" restaurant) on the same grounds (closed Sundays and Mondays).The Bilbao Culinary College with its own restaurant is near by and there are more restaurants near the funicular station 2km away.
Bilbao, the Phoenix city, once an industrial wasteland following the demise of its shipping and steel industries, is now an example of a thriving 21st century city built around the stunning center piece of the Guggenheim Museum. It's not all modernity though, there's a lovely Old Town and a gastronomic tradition for which the Basque country is duly famous.
