HCAD3, Cádiz, Andalucia

Overview

This fine, neoclassical C18th mansion with four lookout towers, near the port and original custom's house by the Plaza de Espana in the old quarter of Cadiz, certainly has a history! Built by Fragela, one of the city's most famous and charitable of traders of the Indies, it has been declared a building of cultural interest.

Very recently, expertly, lovingly and beautifully restored and transformed into a very comfortable hotel, maintaining many of its original features, including oyster stone walls, it perfectly captures the feel of its time with contemporary touches.

Offering accommodation from light and airy double rooms to spacious apartments, all named after illustrious sailors who left a deep legacy, not only in Cadiz, but in Spain, it is furnished and decorated with elegance and care.

The little "bolt hole" in one of the towers, where you can relax with a book and a drink, and the stunning views from here and the rooftop terrace, add to the pleasure of staying in such a unique place.

The very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly staff will not only give you a very warm welcome, but will give you all the advice that you need and ensure that your stay is a memorable one.

Cádiz Andalucia
Cadiz, founded by the Phoenicians in 1100 BC, is the oldest city in Western Europe. In the southwest corner of Andalucia, built on a peninsula, its astonishing light and clarity of the air, and its rounded shape, give it the nickname of La Tacita de Plata – The Little Silver Cup.  Still a working port, the Romans revelled in it, Sir Francis Drake “singed the King of Spain’s beard” here, the Battle of Trafalgar was fought near here and Christopher Columbus set sail twice from here on his voyages of discovery.  Without any huge attractions, the main appeal of Cadiz is its charm and relaxed pace, and the endearing hospitality and generosity of the people, all found in its maze of narrow, intimate streets opening out into little, busy squares with bars serving “pescaito frito” (little fried fish) and manzanilla, reminding you that not much has changed in recent centuries.
  • Explore Cádiz - the cathedral, the camera oscura in the Torre Tavira, the beach of la Caleta
  • Take day trips to the white villages - Arcos de La Frontera, Vejer de la Frontera, Mediña Sidoñia etc...
  • Visit nearby Puerto de Santa Maria and Jeréz de la Frontera, famous for their sherry bodegas
  • Visit Sanlucar de Barrameda, famous for its prawns and from there a river trip to the nature reserve of Coto de Doñana
  • Visit Sevilla on the train or by bus
