This 18th-century palace is located in the small village of Canedo, surrounded by vineyards, yet just a 30-minute drive from Ponferrada and Las Médulas.
The rooms at Palacio de Canedo are unique and full of rustic charm and character. Wooden floors, ceilings, bedsteads create a fairytale ambience inspired by the palace's history. All rooms offer lovely views of the countryside around.
Guests can take guided tours of both the palace and the vineyards and there's a shop selling Parada a Tope's own wines, spirits and local delicacies such as roast peppers which can also be sampled in the hotel's renowned restaurant.
Fourteen rooms in different categories - six are standard, five superior, two junior suites and one suite.
All rooms are decorated in a traditional style, are spacious, have en-suite bathrooms and nice views to the mountains.
The restaurant serves typical regional cuisine, such as botillo (pork intestine stuffed with meat) or roasted peppers.
A wide selection of wines is also offered.
The hotel also has a small store offering wines, liquors and local products.
Canedo is a small, traditional farming community in the region of El Bierzo in the province of León, bordering with Galicia. It is at the foot of the Ancares Nature Park and close to the prettiest stretch of the pilgrims' route to Santiago.
Though miniscule the village is famous among Spanish foodies as the home of ‘Prada a Tope’ the charismatic local entrepreneur who helped put the Mencia wines (and market-garden produce) of El Bierzo to national and international attention.
People come from all over Spain to by the local produce and eat at the Prada a Tope restaurant housed in the Palacio de Canedo hotel.
