Overview

Situated in the renowned Vinho Verde wine region, above the majestic River Douro, this magnificent manor house dating back to 1720 is set in a 40-hectare estate with beautiful landscaped gardens, vineyards, orchards, a cork forest and even a chapel!

With amazing views all around, this is a true ancestral home and each of the very comfortable en-suite rooms in the main house is individually decorated and furnished with family antiques and paintings. The owners still make their deliciously refreshing fruity white wine "Cazas Novas".

The immaculate grounds house a large swimming pool, tennis court and games room, with a pergola giving stunning views of the Douro, where you can take breakfast. Every detail has been thought of!

To top this, you will be wonderfully welcomed and looked after by Ma Fernanda and staff; breakfasts are delectable and other meals (to order) offer traditional regional dishes, made with love and care, using locally sourced produce.

You certainly could not find a better base in this fantastic region!

Accommodation details

In the main house there are six individually decorated double bedrooms - one with a double bed, the rest with two queen/single beds. Four of the rooms are on the ground floor with French doors onto a covered porch and garden, with garden furniture for each room. Two of the rooms are on the first floor where there is a shared balcony off the dining room.

All of the rooms are beautifully furnished with antiques and have excellent quality bed linen. Cosy and comfortable bathrooms with electric towel rails.

One apartment with more modern furniture, sleeping four in an out building near the pool, with separate entrance - two bedrooms (two twins), one bathroom, large sitting room with T.V. and kitchenette.

All rooms have en-suite bathrooms.

N.B. There are also two self-catering properties on the estate, sleeping six and eight.

Restaurant

A delicious continental breakfast is served in the dining room on the first floor of the main house, on the balcony, in your room, or at the viewpoint looking over the Douro (additional cost for this service). Freshly baked bread and pastries, homemade jams, fresh fruit juice, cheese and ham - all locally sourced or homemade. Breakfast is served between 9.00 and 11.00 am.

Lunch and dinner on request (must be ordered within 5 - 24 hours in advance). There is a printed menu with all the dishes on offer - typical regional specialities included. When the house is fully occupied a menu of the day will be offered. Apartment guests may eat in the main dining room or in the apartment.

A good selection of wines from the region, including the Quinta's own vinho verde wine, Cazas Novas, are available too.

Ma Fernanda is an unbeatable cook, using the very best of ingredients, many organic. Well worth sampling her fare!

There is a list of recommended local restaurants at the house. Some are within a ten minute drive of the Quinta in Santa Marinha do Zezere and Resende.
