Opened in 1950 and originally a hostel for hikers this delightful guest house, set in the village of Isaba at the head of the Roncal Valley in the Navarran Pyrenees, has been recently renovated to a high standard and is the perfect base to discover the charms of this rugged yet beautiful region.
The 20 fully-equipped rooms all have en-suite bathrooms and are decorated in a surprisingly modern style, making a feature where possible of the building's historical charm, highlighting wooden beams, vaulted ceilings and stone walls.
A walker's paradise with smugglers paths, shepherds ways and the trans-Pyrenean trail running right through the village as well as the high plains of Belagua just nearby, Isaba is perfectly located to explore the north-east of Navarra.
The village itself has good amenities, including a good public swimming pool and several restaurants and Ochagavia, the Irati forest and the gorges of Arbayun and Lumbiers are all within easy reach.

Isaba Spanish Pyrenees and Catalunya
At the upper end of the beautiful Valle de Roncal, famous for its sheep’s cheese and the local Almadieros who take the timber down the river in rafts when it’s in full flow at the end of April, the beautifully preserved and typically Navarran mountain village of Isaba is the perfect base for those wishing to explore the Navarran Pyrenees. The region has a rich heritage owing to its strategic place on the Camino de Santiago and its importance as a main mountain pass to France. The gorges of Lumbiers and Arbayun with their resident vulture colonies just a short drive to the South are not to be missed, whilst the Forest of Irati, one of Europe’s largest unexploited forests and several peaks of 2000m+, is within easy reach to the west. The town serves as a centre for visitors to the area and has all the basic amenities including a handful of restaurants and companies offering mountain activities.
