Overview
Hidden away in a quiet lane in the heart of Lisboa, in the upper part of the well-heeled Chiado district and not far from party-loving Bairro Alto, this lovely mansion, offering luxury accommodation, and its grassy inner courtyard with a heated swimming pool, is a haven of peace.
Acquired by Balthazar, founder of Confeiteria Nacional, the oldest pastry shop in Lisboa, in 1882, it still remains in the same family and the delicious breakfasts, brought to your room each morning, are supplied by the same bakery.
Intimate, personal and cosy, all of the beautifully appointed seventeen rooms and suites, each one different, are decorated in a classical and contemporary style. Almost all have equipped kitchenettes, some have private terraces and patios and most have fantastic views over the city and Castelo do Sa?u Jorge. For a real treat three of the suites come with outdoor jacuzzi!
The very helpful, friendly and efficient staff will give you a warm welcome and look after all your needs during your stay.
There is a good restaurant right next door, and many more in the neighbourhood of Chiado, a district of designer shops, museums, theatres and old world cafes where Lisbon's literary figures hung out in times gone by.
The dramatic ruins of the gothic Convento do Carmo and the Contemporary Art Museum are just down the road and the nearest metro stations are just a short walk, taking you to all of the city's sights.
And for a trip out of the city take the train to fairy tale Sintra from the stunning neo-Manueline Rossio train station, a three minute stroll.
