This charming 3-star hotel is set beside the Bidasoa River near the picturesque village of Etxalar. Set amidst the hills of the western Pyrenees, its proximity to the coast and the French border makes this a fantastic base to explore the Baztán-Bidasoa Valley and the coast near San Sebastian as well as the delightful French Pais Basque, just over the border.
The hotel has a popular bar with a large outdoor terrace and a well renowned restaurant as well as several function rooms. Its 37 rooms, many of which have balconies, offer air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and complimentary Wi-Fi.
The valley is famed for its pretty villages, including nearby Etxalar, Lesaka and Bera de Bidasoa, and its deep rooted Basque culture and gastronomy. Hikers will find wonderful walks in the rolling hills and history buffs will be able to trace the final battles of Wellington’s Peninsular Campaign.
San Sebastian and Hondarribia are just nearby and the various mountain passes which cross the frontier open the door for wonderful circular routes, taking in the delightful villages of the Pais Basque, the resorts of Biarritz, St Jean de Luz and Hendaye and the spectacular coastal road along the Corniche.
37 rooms including single rooms, double and twin rooms (17 of which have balconies) plus 1 junior suite and 2 suites.
Family rooms sleeping 3 and 4 people are also available.
All rooms fully refurbished in 2025 with hardwood flooring and light-oak furnishings. Bathrooms have also been fully renovated and most (except 2) have walk-in showers.
Many rooms have balconies with views to the river and the hills. All have a small desk, a safety deposit box offer air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Just over the border from France and a stone’s throw from the Bay of Biscay, the village of Etxalar sits among the lovely green mountains of northern Navarra, where the Pyrenees come down to meet the sea. Well placed for exploring northern Navarra, the French Pais Basque and Spanish Basque coast near San Sebastian, this is the perfect base to combine a walking holiday with days at the beach, and visits to historic towns and villages nearby.
The village itself, famed for its smuggling traditions and its unique style of pigeon hunting in the autumn, is beautifully preserved in the style particular to the valleys of the Baztan and Bidasoa and has two good bar / restaurants, an open air swimming pool and a large fronton (open air pelota court, doubles as a playground on rainy days).
