Set in the centre of the medieval town of Santillana this old favourite was reopened in 2026 after a comprehensive refurbishment that has transformed the accommodation and public areas whilst keeping its traditional Cantabrian flavour. Improvements included a complete renewal of interiors, soundproofing and climate control, better accessibility and substantial improvements in energy efficiency leading to an upgrade from three to four stars.
Though purpose-built the hotel is designed and built in the style of a traditional Cantabrian manor. The restored interiors combine locally inspired furniture, textiles and craftsmanship with clean contemporary lines and colours drawn from the Cantabrian landscape. There are comfortable public rooms, a peaceful garden and a spacious terrace.
Its position in the centre of Santillana del Mar is one of the hotel’s main advantages. Guests can leave the car in the hotel’s paid parking area and explore the cobbled streets, medieval buildings, shops and restaurants on foot. Or jump in the car and the Caves and Museum of Altamira is a short drive away, while Santander as well as Comillas, Suances and the western Cantabrian coast can all be visited comfortably from the hotel.

All rooms have en-suite bathroom, heating, satellite TV and telephone, hairdryer and minibar. Superior rooms have tea and coffee making facilities.
The hotel shares the elegant Gil Blas restaurant with its sister hotel of that name which serves traditional Cantabrian fare with a modern twist.
There's also a bar where drinks and lighter snacks can be taken.
Breakfast is an extensive buffet.
Santillana del Mar, about seven kms from the sea, is a beautiful village of grand old mansions, each with its coat-of-arms, and traditional farmhouses. It is justly popular with visitors as a cultural centre: there are two museums and often exhibitions of more than local interest while the wonderful Romanesque Collegiate Church holds concerts. It also has some very good pottery shops as well as stalls selling the local milk and cake (sobaos), and trinkets, and has a good choice of cafes and restaurants. In summer it is busy – but even then, the local farmers continue about their business, so that cows and carts mix with the camera-carrying tourists.
