HSAL5, Salamanca, Madrid and Inland Spain

Overview

Housed in a Dominican convent dating back to the 16th-century this magnificent, 5-star hotel is right in the centre of Salamanca. The Plaza Mayor, Cathedrals, Old & New and all the other main sights are a short walk from the door. The lobby, the library, the bar and some of the more select rooms are located in the original 16th century building, with thick walls, stone arches and a distinctive, Plateresque-style, golden sandstone facade typical of Salamanca's monumental Old-town. The rest of the rooms are located in a four storey building with magnificent views over the rooftops to the cathedrals and cloisters; the same views enjoyed by the summer terrace, where you can disconnect from everything while having a drink amongst centenary olive trees, relaxing by the pool or dining in style in the summer gazebo. A stylish bar and library area on a lower level of the main building gives onto the terrace and courtyard whilst the restaurant, the wine cellar and the breakfast room are located in the former refectory of the Dominican Convent, in an impressive, atmospheric wine cellar.

Salamanca Madrid and Inland Spain

Few cities in Spain can boast such a combination of historic importance, architectural beauty and cosmopolitan nature. Its Old Town was declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1988 and its University, founded in 1134, is the first university of Spain and fourth of the western world. Take a stroll at night to see the city at its best, when all the monuments and palaces are lit up. The imposing Plaza Mayor, of baroque style, is often considered to be the most beautiful in Spain and is the heart of the city.

  • Not far south of the city, the Sierra de Francia Mountains are of spectacular beauty. In this region we can find places like Guijuelo, which produces some of the best hams and cured meats in the world.
  • Cathedral and cathedral towers
  • University and Museum - Oldest in Spain
  • Casa Lis, Art Nouveau and Art Déco Museum
  • Casa de las Conchas - 16th century palace
  • Ciudad Rodrigo, walled Spanish Monument City since 1944 – in Sierra de Francia
  • La Alberca – Spanish Heritage town – in Sierra de Francia
  • Guijuelo – Superb cured meats in Sierra de Francia
