Canedo, León, Madrid and Inland Spain

Canedo is a small, traditional farming community in the region of El Bierzo in the province of León, bordering with Galicia. It is at the foot of the Ancares Nature Park and close to the prettiest stretch of the pilgrims' route to Santiago.

Though miniscule the village is famous among Spanish foodies as the home of ‘Prada a Tope’ the charismatic local entrepreneur who helped put the Mencia wines (and market-garden produce) of El Bierzo to national and international attention.

People come from all over Spain to by the local produce and eat at the Prada a Tope restaurant housed in the Palacio de Canedo hotel.

  • Las Médulas – extraordinary red-rock landscape formed by Roman mining.
  • Historic El Bierzo,  a land seemingly lost in time.
  • Full bodied local wines from El Bierzo, delicious peppers, botillocecina….
  • Visit the Knights Templar castle at Ponferrada – straight from a fairytale.
  • Historic Villafranca del Bierzo, right on the Camino
