In a lovely, quiet and restful country spot, surrounded by woods and maize fields, an easy walk from the little, working fishing port of Camarinas, famous for its bobbin lace making,
this delightful, small, family run hotel provides a perfect base for exploring the Costa Da Morte with all its seafaring history.

Comprised of three, attractively restored, granite stone buildings, centred around a courtyard and in a beautifully kept garden with terrace for sitting and eating out, the main house dates back 300 years. At one time these were a hamlet in their own right and the pilgrims' route ran directly through it.

Decorated and furnished in comfortable, country style, maintaining many original features, with interesting pictures and objects d'art, its solid granite walls, beamed ceilings, rustic tiled and wood floors, create a cosy, homely and relaxing feeling.

The friendly and attentive owners, Alberto and his family, will give you a warm welcome, make sure your stay is a memorable one and give you useful advice on all the local attractions in the area.

Accommodation

There are seven twin/double en-suite (some have baths/some have showers) rooms in all, distributed between three separate buildings surrounding the courtyard. One is adapted for the disabled. T.V. in all rooms.
In the main building there are two superior bedrooms, one on the first floor (double) and one on the attic floor (twin).
These rooms have a comfortable sitting area with sofa beds.
In the second building there are four bedrooms with separate entrances for the ground and first floors. On the ground floor there is one twin and one double. On the first floor there are two interconnected rooms – one double and one twin.
In the third building, there is one double bed and a sitting area with a sofa bed. This room has been adapted for the disabled.

Restaurant on the ground floor in the main building. Not open to the public.
Breakfast (from 9.00 am, but should you want it earlier, please arrange this with the owner) is served here – cereals, fruit, homemade cakes and pastries, fresh bread, toast, butter and jams, tea and coffee and other infusions and eggs should you want them.
Camarinas (1.8 kms – an easy walk), has a fair choice of bars and restaurants – Restaurant Puerto Arnela and Restaurant La Marina particularly recommended.

Camarinas, North Spain

Camarinas, in the beautiful Ria of the same name, is a small but lively working fishing port with a marina, in the heart of La Costa Da Muerte, lying south west of A Coruna and just fifty kilometres to Santiago de Compostela.

Taking its name from a native tree "caramina", which can be found nearby at Playa del Trece, the largest nature reserve in Galicia, not only is it a place to feast on fish and seafood (good choice of restaurants and bars), but it is also internationally famous for its lace making.

In its streets you can still hear the unique sound of the clacking of the the bobbins and at Easter the town hosts the "International Camarinas Bobbin Lace Fair". There is also a bobbin lace making museum and little shops selling the handmade product.

For outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers, there are some wonderful walks in the immediate area – one along the rugged coastline to Cabo Vilan with the oldest working electrical lighthouse in Europe and Boi Point, the scene of more than twenty shipwrecks, including one of a British vessel "The Serpent" in 1890. The victims were buried at what is now known as the English Graveyard there.

There are some lovely sandy beaches in the area too, including the totally unspoilt Playa del Trece and Playa de Riera, down the side of Monte Branco, the highest sand dune in Spain!

And for culture vultures, there are castros and dolmens, the ruins of the "Sovereigns Castle" where the struggle against the French occupation took place. You can also find the fine pazos of Mouzo and Paxarina, the sanctuary at Muxia and the "German Museum" in Camelle, the artist, now considered to be a leading exponent of "Land Art".

Learn about "Man" at the German Museum in Camelle, the village's adopted son – see his "folly" on the rocks in the port.
Walk, cycle or drive to the lighthouse at Cabo Vilan – the oldest, electrically run lighthouse in Spain! Visit the English Cemetery just north of there.
Day trips to A Coruña and Santiago de Compostela, a must.
Don't miss the "pottery" village of Buno – a great place for presents to take home.
Visit the castle at Vimianzo, now restored to house paintings, photos and crafts.
Explore the fishing ports of Muxia, Laxe, Corme and Malpica.
Go to the "end of the world" at Cape Finisterre.
Enjoy the local gastronomy – excellent, reasonably priced fish and seafood in the local bars and restaurants.
