This small, charming, perfectly preserved historic Art-Nouveau hotel sits in an enviable position right on the front by the beach, overlooking the lovely shell-shaped bay in the pleasant seaside town of S??o Martinho do Porto, on the Silver Coast in central Portugal.

Formerly the home of sea captain Jaime Pinto, it brims with old world charm and character, but though taking you back in time, modern comforts are not forgotten.

The bedrooms, some with sea views, are individually decorated and furnished, with many of the original features still intact – one even has a secret passage!

With two sun terraces, a lounge terrace and a tea room which even serves scones, the hotel is a great place to chill out and forget modern pressures.

S??o Martinho, though bustling in the summer months, is a nicely laid back, friendly town with its fair share of bars, restaurants and little shops and even an elevator which takes you up to the upper town.

You will probably just be happy to stroll along the front watching the locals harvesting seaweed, but if it's culture you are looking for, the historical towns of Alcoba??a, Batalha, Tomar and ?"bidos and picturesque Nazar? are all within easy reach.

Accommodation

There are 11 double standard and superior rooms and a suite with outdoor jacuzzi, all with en-suite bathrooms. Some have sea views. Some are on the attic floor with sloping ceilings.
All rooms have hardwood floors, a minibar, a safe, T.V., WIFI, air conditioning and a hairdryer. All the rooms are different, but are decorated and furnished in a traditional, classic style with character. There is one room that has a bathroom adapted for the disabled.

A very good buffet breakfast, including egg dishes, is served in the tea room which overlooks the bay. It is also possible to have breakfast in your room.

The tea room (open to the public from 11 – 23.00) serves hot and cold drinks and cakes and pastries (even scones).

For other meals the town has a good selection of bars and restaurants, many with fish and seafood as their specialities.

At one time a provisions port and a stopping off point for the Kings of Portugal, the pleasant seaside town and fishing port of São Martinho do Porto, sits on a lovely shell shaped, sandy bay on the Silver Coast in central Portugal, about 100 kms north of Lisboa.

Though very busy and bustling in the summer months, it has a nice, laid back feel at other times of the year and it is so relaxing just to stroll along the front or the beach and watch the fishing boats and the locals collecting seaweed. From its lighthouse, you get a wonderful view of the coast and on a clear day, The Berlengas Islands where birds take priority over humans.
