Cangas denomination, and houses the visitor centre for the Cangas del Narcea Nature Park.

Corias, Cangas del Narcea, North Spain
Historically Cangas del Narcea is best known as the centre of the ‘Cuenca Minera’, Spain’s main coal-mining region though these days it is known for its beautiful natural surroundings and as the main gateway to the nature parks of Somiedo and Muniellos. It is also the centre for the D.O. Cangas wine region, almost unknown even to the Spanish yet producing some truly remarkable wines.
The region is home to a number of historic mines, including the Minas de Salave, which are among the largest and most important in Spain. It is also steeped in history with many interesting churches and monasteries dating back to the 9th century and a Celtic culture stretching back to pre-Roman times. The 11th century Monasterio de San Salvador de Corias, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, now houses the Parador de Corias just to the north of the town.
Somiedo Natural Park is the main attraction for nature lovers in this area, covering an area of over 35,000 hectares and home to a spectacularly diverse ecosystem, including wolves, bears, and eagles. Los Muniellos, a smaller protected area is also of great interest, a primitive forest and home to several endangered species this is the most protected area in Asturias (NB only 20 people are allowed to enter each day and a special permission is required which must be booked in advance).

- D.O Cangas wines – little known but of outstanding quality. Visit the museum just south of Cangas del Narcea.
- Los Muniellos Nature Park – strictly protected biosphere reserve – you need to book ahead.
- El Narcea Nature Reserve – visitor centre in the Parador de Corias – a beautiful natural area with hiking trails, waterfalls, and stunning views.
- Cangas del Narcea Castle – beautifully preserved and is open to the public for tours.
- The Santuario de la Virgen del Camino – a beautiful shrine dedicated to the Virgin Mary, with a stunning fresco and beautiful gardens.
- The Muiños de Rios – a series of watermills that have been beautifully restored and are open to the public for tours.
- Santuario de la Virgen del Acebo – one of several ancient sanctuaries and monasteries in the region. 9 The Museo Etnográfico de Cangas del Narcea – a museum dedicated to the history and culture of the region, with exhibits on traditional crafts, agriculture, and more.
